The Golden Flute -Sri Chinmoy

A sea of Peace and Joy and Light
Beyond my reach I know.
In me the storm-tossed weeping night
Finds room to rage and flow.

I cry aloud, but all in vain;
I helpless, the earth unkind
What soul of might can share my pain?
Death-dart alone I find.

A raft am I on the sea of Time,
My oars are washed away.
How can I hope to reach the clime
Of God's eternal Day?

But hark! I hear Thy golden Flute,
Its notes bring the Summit down.
Now safe am I, O Absolute!
Gone death, gone night's stark frown!

TPCASTT

Title- This poem, “The Golden Flute”, I believe, will talk about the life of a golden flute. It might also mention his relationship with his owner, the flutist.
Paraphrase-
Peace, Joy, and Light are beyond my reach and in me is a storm of rage.
I cry out loud, but helpless, I am. Who could share my pain? Only death will.
I am a raft stranded in the sea with no oars, so how can I hope to reach God’s eternal day?
But listen! I hear a golden flute! Death is gone! Now I am safe!
Connotation-
Rhyme scheme- ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH
Personification- “weeping night”, “the earth unkind”
Metaphor- “A raft I am on the sea of time”
Attitude- In the first three stanzas, the author speaks as if he has no hope. He is helplessly in pain, lost, and doubtful that he will ever have hope. Then in the final stanza, he begins with “Hark!” meaning, listen! I hear a golden flute! I hear hope! Then he continues and says that he is safe, for death has gone.
Shifts- There is a shift in between the third and fourth stanza. The author’s tone goes from a pessimistic tone to a hopeful jubilant tone.
Title- The golden flute is reminding us of the hope we have through our Savior.
Theme- The golden flute announces the arrival of Jesus. He is the Savior and grants me hope in living, through Him. This poem is saying, though our life may seem meaningless, hopeless, and not worth living, if we look deeper into our hearts, we always have Jesus; all we have to do is listen for the golden flute of hope.

Confidence -Melissa Underwood

You don't always have to be in the lead...
If you have the heart to come from behind.
Don't give up hope, don't doubt yourself,
And a new strength is what you'll find.
The spirit of competition, the desire to succeed
will always be important for life.
So give your all, everything you've got,
No matter the occasion, through pain and strife.
So step up to the plate, enter the race,
Never be afraid to take your turn.
Because winners are people who just never quit,
And this is a life lesson we all will learn.

Analysis:
This poem is applicable to everyone. It talks about being confident and having the heart of a winner. It is always important that in the most doubtful situations, you must believe in yourself and that you will succeed. “Through pain and strife” you must give everything. This is a lesson I am still in the process of learning. Playing sports, I should have already learned to never give up, but there are times where I doubt my ability or my strength. I love this poem because it encourages me to have the desire to win and succeed.

Smart -Shel Silverstein

My dad gave me one dollar bill
'Cause I'm his smartest son,
And I swapped it for two shiny quarters
'Cause two is more than one!

And then I took the quarters
And traded them to Lou
For three dimes - I guess he don't know
That three is more than two!

Just then, along came old blind Bates
And just 'cause he can't see
He gave me four nickels for my three dimes,
And four is more than three!

And I took the nickels to Hiram Coombs
Down at the seed-feed store,
And the fool gave me five pennies for them,
And five is more than four!

And then I went and showed my dad,
And he got red in the cheeks
And closed his eyes and shook his head-
Too proud of me to speak!

But Not Forgotten -Dorothy Parker

I think, no matter where you stray,
That I shall go with you a way.
Though you may wander sweeter lands,
You will not soon forget my hands,
Nor yet the way I held my head,
Nor all the tremulous things I said.
You still will see me, small and white
And smiling, in the secret night,
And feel my arms about you when
The day comes fluttering back again.
I think, no matter where you be,
You'll hold me in your memory
And keep my image, there without me,
By telling later loves about me.

TPCASTT

Title- This poem has to do with old memories.

Paraphrase-
I believe, no matter where you wander
I will follow you
Even though you go to better lands
You will not forget my hands easily
Neither the way I held my head
Or the alarming things I said
Small and white, you will still recognize me
Delighted in the serene night,
And sense my arms around you when
The day irradiates across the sky
I believe, no matter where you are
I’ll be in your memory
And store my image, there without me
By apprising your future lovers about me

Attitude- The authors tone seems perky because the bounciness of the poem created by the rhyme scheme. The tone sounds informing, warning, or even critical. As I read this poem, I heard and saw a person saying or writing this poem after a breakup. It sounded like: though we may have broken up, you will still remember me and the times we have spent together.

Shifts- There isn’t very many shifts in this poem, but a slight shift is located in between the fourth and fifth line. The lines from one through four are about places to go. From the fifth line and down, there doesn’t seen to be a distinct shift because the lines seems to be jumbled up.
